CONGO NOW!

“I really hope that people take note of what is happening in Congo and that the British Government redoubles its efforts to create a safe and dignified future for the Congolese people.”

Mission Statement

Congo Now! is a coalition-led campaign to raise awareness of the continuing violence and civilian suffering in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Congo Now! is campaigning for effective political action from the UK government to ensure that the UK maintains and strengthens its efforts on the DRC. In particular it is calling on the UK to:

  • Stop natural resources fuelling the conflict
  • Protect civilians from violence
  • Promote non-military and regional solutions to the conflict
  • Address the devastating causes and consequences of conflict and sexual violence particularly for women and children

Corrie in the Congo

Sally and Suranne have just returned from visiting Christian Aid's work in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). They went to highlight the plight of women and children who are often stigmatised because of HIV.

While in the DRC, Sally and Suranne met incredible survivors of the conflict, including a woman called Ambisa who was raped by soldiers and then discovered she had contracted HIV. They visited a clinic supporting thousands of children orphaned by HIV and met young HIV positive women and children whose families abandoned them because of the stigma of their status.
