Mission Statement What is Congo Now? Our Members
Congo Church Association

The CCA exists to support the work of the Anglican Church in the DRC. In addition to its spiritual functions and support for the clergy, the Church is now deeply involved in development, stabilisation, peace and reconciliation projects, as well as current issues resulting from the unstable situation in the country, particularly in the East. Drawing on the Church's experience and resilience and presence in remote areas and working with NGOs and partner organisations, it is able to help deliver programmes where external aid organisations have difficulty penetrating. The CCA supports activities which include:

  • Development projects: Education (in addition to running parent-financed primary and secondary schools, 2 Universities have recently been set up), Health care (clinics and hospitals, training of primary health workers, HIV/AIDS work with other charities), Water, Humanitarian Aid (following natural disasters and internal displacements), Agriculture, Micro-projects, including micro-finance, and practical training courses including self-help training.
  • Protection of women: the church is active in helping, counselling and rehabilitating rape victims.
  • Youth Training: A series of Youth Training Manuals designed to help DRC youth to face squarely the country's difficulties have been officially endorsed by the DRC Ministry of Education and Sport.
  • Peace and Reconciliation: working hands-on not only with rival ethnic groups in the Kivus but also advising the Congolese Armed Forces.

The CCA channels funds from a number of UK (and some foreign) church organisations and private donors. Most of the work is carried out in the East and South of the DRC, but the Church's activities are spreading to other parts of the DRC and indeed to Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo.
