EU takes step towards conflict-free supply chains
Global Witness and CCFD-Terre Solidaire welcomed a commitment [on 27 January] by EU Trade Commissioner De Gucht and Development Commissioner Piebalgs to make supply chains more transparent, a move that will help prevent natural resource-fuelled conflict. The two groups called on the Commission to swiftly roll out regulation requiring companies sourcing minerals to do checks – known as due diligence – on their supply chains. more Joint Electoral Observation Mission makes further criticisms of electoral abuses in the DRC

On 1 December 2011, the Joint Electoral Observation Mission in the DRC released a statement on the DRC's latest elections. Whilst they praised the fact that most people were able to vote successfully, they underlined the many electoral abuses that their observers witnessed throughout the country.
